Hair of the Dog – Ramones

When I woke up this morning from the night before
My brain was pulsating, I was battered and sore
Nothing I tried would satisfy
Cold Coke and Pepsi or Canada Dry

What’s so wrong, hair of the dog
There’s nothing wrong, hair of the dog

Finally pulled myself out of my bed
Feeling kinda dodgy, I was feeling half dead
Done it before, probably do it again
Don’t know if I ever will learn

What’s so wrong, hair of the dog
There’s nothing wrong, hair of the dog

Hair of the dog

Finally pulled myself out of my bed
Feeling kinda dodgy, I was feeling half dead
Done it before, probably do it again
Don’t know if I ever will learn

What’s so wrong, hair of the dog
There’s nothing wrong, hair of the dog

Hair of the Dog – Nazareth

Heartbreaker, soul shaker
I’ve been told about you
Steamroller, the midnight shoulder
What they been sayin’ must be true

Red hot mama, oh that charmer
Time’s come to pay your dues

(chorus)
Now you’re messin’ with a (a son of a bitch)
Now you’re messin’ with a son of a bitch
Now you’re messin’ with a (a son of a bitch)
Now you’re messin’ with a son of a bitch

Talkin’ jive and poison ivy
You ain’t gonna cling to me
Minute taker, fall faker
I ain’t so blind I can’t see

Red hot mama, oh that charmer
Time’s come to pay your dues

(chorus)

(instrumental)

(chorus 4x)

“Hair Of The Dog” does not appear in the lyrics. The logical title would be “Son Of A Bitch,” but it would be tough to get airplay with a song of that name. “Hair Of The Dog” comes from the phrase “Hair of the dog that bit you,” which some people consider a hangover cure, meaning that if you wake up in pain after drinking lots of beer the night before, a beer will help cure you.

There must be some mistake
I didn’t mean to let them
Take away my soul
Am I too old is it too late

Oooh Ma Oooh Pa
Where has the feeling gone?
Oooh Ma Oooh Pa
Will I remember the songs?
Oooooh aah the show must go on.

Empty spaces what are we living
For abandoned places I guess we

Anybody know what we are looking
For

Guitarist Brian May wrote this while lead singer Freddie Mercury was dying of AIDS. It was Mercury’s last official album with Queen, and when it was released, very few people knew he had the disease. The lyrics are about the need to press on and make the most out of life while you can still enjoy it.

And…today’s winner is: QUEEN

Freddie was extremely amazed when Brian introduced it to him. «Darling, I will sing it and I’ll give it my all»

Empty spaces what are we living
For abandoned places I guess we
Know the score on and on does
Anybody know what we are looking
For

Another hero another mindless
Crime behind the curtain in the
Pantomime hold the line does
Anybody want to take it anymore

The show must go on (2x) yeah
Inside my heart is breaking my
Make-up may be flaking but my
Smile still stays on

Whatever happens I’ll leave it
All to chance another heartache
Another failed romance on and on
Does anybody know what we are
Living for

I guess I’m learning I must be
Warmer now I’ll soon be turning
Round the corner now outside the
Dawn is breaking but inside in
The dark I’m aching to be free

The show must go on (2x) yeah
Inside my heart is breaking my
Make-up may be flaking but my
Smile still stays on

My soul is painted like the wings
Of butterflies fairytales of
Yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly my friends

The show must go on (2x) I’ll face
It with a grin I’m never giving in
On with the show

I’ll top the bill I’ll overkill I
Have to find the will to carry on
On with the (2x) show the show
Must go on…

Shangri-La -The Kinks
Album: Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) – 1969

The album Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire was a commercial flop, which contributed to many problems the band faced. In the UK, “Shangri-La” was released as a single in September, 1969, a month before the album came out.

Musicanship: IIII

Vocals: IIII

Emotions: IIIII

Lyrics: III

Some Words:

Now that you’ve found your paradise
This is your Kingdom to command
You can go outside and polish your car
Or sit by the fire in your Shangri-la
Here is your reward for working so hard
Gone are the lavatories in the back yard
Gone are the days when you dreamed of that car
You just want to sit in your Shangri-la

Outstanding instrument: acustic guitar

Psychodelic – Trippy – Magical

Final Score: XVI

Shangri-La – Electric Light Orchestra
Album: A New World Record – 1976

This song seems to have two meanings: One referring to a loved one that is never going to come or never come back, the other being that it could be the main characters referring to the mystical lands itself.

My Shangri-la has gone away,
Faded like the Beatles on Hey Jude
She seemed to drift out on the rain

Outstanding instruments: Orchestal Arragements
