Pearl Jam – Just Breathe

Yes, I understand that every life must end, uh-huhAs we sit alone, I know someday we must go, uh-huhOh I’m a lucky man, to count on both hands the ones I loveSome folks just have one, yeah, others, they’ve got none.

Stay with me…Let’s just breathe…

Practiced all my sins, never gonna let me win, uh-huhUnder everything, just another human being, uh-huhI don’t wanna hurt, there’s so much in this world to make me believe

Stay with meYou’re all I see…

Did I say that I need you?Did I say that I want you?Oh, if I didn’t I’m a fool you seeNo one knows this more than me

As I come clean…I wonder everyday, as I look upon your face, uh-huhEverything you gaveAnd nothing you would save, oh no

Nothing you would takeEverything you gave…

Did I say that I need you?Oh, did I say that I want you?Oh, if I didn’t I’m a fool you seeNo one knows this more than meAnd I come clean, ah…

Nothing you would takeEverything you gaveHold me til I dieMeet you on the other side…

Vedder described this to the Canadian radio station The Edge as “as close to a love song as we’ve ever gotten.” He added to the Toronto Globe and Mail: “There’s never a dull moment on the road – every day it’s something. Maybe that’s why my goal is the dull moment. That’s what this song is: It’s saying, ‘Just stop, and be together. Don’t talk now, just breathe and feel each other’s presence – now that the kids are in bed.'”

This introspective track was triggered by a song from Eddie Vedder’s Into the Wild soundtrack. He explained to Billboard magazine that it “uses the first chord from an instrumental called “Tuolumne.” There was a lyric or something that hit me, and I picked up the guitar and played that chord. I thought, well, I’ll just go with it and make something different out of it. It was a shorter song, and then I wrote a bridge to it while the other guys were working on something else.”
